Since most of the people here build algo for stocks. I want to know if it is more difficult to build algo for Forex than stocks?

New here. How difficult is it to make profit in forex compare to stock market.

New here.
I am wondering how difficult is it to make profit in forex compare to stock market? Is it worth to learn forex trading?
In stock market, we have stocks going as wild as -80% to +1000%. There are so many opportunities every day.
In forex market, the exchange rate barely changes from day to day. How can one make profit? Do you need to trade hundred times a day and let the small profits add up. How long do people usually hold in forex?

Why does it seem to be more hype on folks who trade futures, options and forex as compared to folks who trade stocks/equity? Is it because the former is more difficult to do and begets more credit than the latter when one is successful?

Inspiration & hope for you guys in this difficult forex profession

I ran across this on ForexFactory. I saved this post to my desktop because I found the ideas to be very inspirational. Perhaps this post can offer some hope for you traders out there fighting in the trenches:
This is my first post here at FF. I have been lurking for over 4 years and trading profitably for 3. I use this site as entertainment ONLY, which is why I have never felt inclined to post. However, after reading through this thread, I would like to make a point, in order to give back hope and optimism to those that want to hear it.
If you are in the business of trading, then you are in the business of making money. If you are not making money, you are not a trader. All the people saying that 1000% a year,or anything more than 5% a week, etc is impossible, are incorrect. There is NO limit to upside potential when trading FX & Futures. It is misleading to post things like "no one can ever turn $1,000 to $1 million," when it is simply not true.
I have doubled my account in 3 days, multiple times. I have seen friends make 300% in a week. Just because you kill it one week/year doesn't mean you will loose the next week/year. It is all in how you trade.
Add to your winners and cut your losses quick. There is no such thing as being over-leveraged if your trade is in profit! Let the thing ride, and add to your winners. If I determine that a particular situation has a high probability of producing a profitable trade, I routinely use ALL available leverage on a trade that is ALREADY in profit, and set stop to BE.
Trading is all about money management, but if I had to stick to .5%, or 1% trades, I'd rather not trade at all. Use a 2-5% risk limit to get into trades, and then crank it up once they turn green. THAT is how you make money. The account that I still trade with today, started with $300, was up to $2,000 within 2 months, and now provides me with everything I need and more. Anyone who says it is impossible just can't do it themselves and hates to believe that other people can.
There are plenty of people who made millions off of the market starting with a low amount of capital but they are not here on FF to respond to this thread, they are out on their yachts.
Good luck to all!

Day trade only AAPL

I have been trading forex for 2 years now but I'm done with it as my health is deteriorating because of constant trading 24/5 with no proper sleep. I don't want to do it anymore.
Now I have 30k in my trading account. Planning to day trade only aapl and make 500$ a day. Is it too difficult with 4 times leverage? Any suggestions?

The importance of backtesting and sticking to a strategy

Hi all,
I just wanted to share my trading experience with you so far, and maybe help some people who may be in the situation as I am. I started trading about 2-3 months ago. I started with baby pips, opened a demo account, and got cocky a couple weeks into it and made a live account with $100, and every other week or so put $20 extra in. (thank God I didn’t put it more than that). Today, my account stands at around $68, with a total P/L of -$131.76. I have been really uncomfortable losing money, even if it’s not a lot, and that uncomfortableness forced me to realize my mistake.
I thought I could half ass a strategy and be a winner in forex, and the market humbled me extremely quickly. I actually didn’t have a strategy at all. It was a lazy mix of a bunch of different typical strategies I saw on YouTube. I also let my emotions get into trades, after a losing trade I would get back in the market in the opposite direction to try and make up for my loss. All bad, I know. I was too cocky.
Just like anything difficult in life, you cannot half ass forex. I spent all of Friday testing an EXTREMELY simple strategy on 4 major pairs, and out of 93 total trades over the last 6 months, the win rate of my strategy is 73%. From now on, I vow to ONLY make a trade when my strategy presents itself. Moral of the story is, if you think you can half ass forex, you better wake up right now. Find a strategy, backtest it, and only trade said strategy. Have some discipline.
Here is my extremely simple, backtested strategy with a 73% win rate that I got from The Trading Channel on YouTube:
Indicators: 200 EMA
Requirements: 2 wicks IN A ROW that TOUCH the 200 EMA, that have candle bodies that both close above or below the 200 EMA. If both candles close above the 200 EMA, go long. If both candles close below the 200 EMA go short. Stay extremely strict with the rules of the strategy.
Here are the pairs that I have tested this strategy on over the past 6 months, that total a 73% win rate:
-GBP/USD: 18/27 winning trades (67%)
-NZD/USD: 15/27 winning trades (71%)
-EUUSD: 15/20 winning trades (75%)
-EUGBP: 20/25 winning trades (80%)
All backtesting was done on the H1 chart. I tried on the daily and H4 charts but the frequency just wasn’t enough. In the video that I got this strategy from he was trying to highlight the importance of the frequency of your strategy. Even if it may have a really high winning percentage, if it only happens once a year it’s not a good strategy.
Also on a side note, I’ve seen a lot of conflicting opinions on whether or not the US election will effect USD pairs, do you guys think the election will mess with my strategy this upcoming week, or should I just trade my strategy and pay not attention to the results of the election?
Thanks for reading, and happy trading
Sincerely, u/emopatriot
